Tesco由3月份起，將成為英國首間超級市場停止售賣塑料製濕紙巾。一些大型品牌例如 Huggies 和 Pampers的濕紙巾，將會從此消失在Tesco中。
市面仍有大量塑料製的濕紙巾
對於有小孩的家庭，濕紙巾是非常方便。生產商為了強化濕紙巾的韌力，大多使用塑料纖維來製作。這些塑料纖維不但在泥土裡極難分解，錯誤地將濕紙巾扔在馬桶沖走，會造成污水渠堵塞。
拒絕塑料製的濕紙巾
2019年 保健用品店Holland & Barrett是英國首間零售店停賣塑料製的濕紙巾，而Tesco是首間超級市級率先開始。
Tesco作為龐大的供應商，他們的濕紙巾每年總銷售量達 7500 萬包，相當於每天有超過 20萬包的濕紙巾被買走。作為供應商龍頭，他們的個人品牌濕紙巾已在兩年前起停止使用塑料製作，改為生產非塑料質地的濕紙巾。他們這種非塑料質地的濕紙巾，使用含有植物性粘膠的纖維，能在垃圾堆填中分解得更快。
Tesco的發言人指：『濕紙巾無需含有塑料，所以從現在開始，我們不再存有和出售含塑料的濕紙巾』。
經常被環保團體評擊
其實以現時的科技，絕大部份的企業都可以研發出對地球更有利的物質，來取代塑料製品。塑料性的濕紙巾仍能廣泛被使用的主要原因是超級市場和商店仍然出售。因此經常被環保團體評擊，認為商店理應發起實際行動，以『禁賣』方式迫使製造商棄用塑料物料。
