連月來，整個英國都進入貨櫃車司機短缺慌，令超級市場一度缺貨，貨架上空空如也。不單超市，連Mcdonalds、KFC 和 Nandos 等飲食連鎖店也同樣受到影響，在沒有食物提供的情況下，被迫關門暫停營業。
較律師、建築師的薪金還要高
因此，超級市場之間出現高薪挖角潮，Tesco、M&S、Aldi、Morrisons 和 Ocado都相繼登出招聘廣告，以最高£56,674 聘請貨櫃車司機。近日，Waitrose超市也加入挖角行動，登報以£53,780聘請貨櫃車司機。
當貨櫃車司機有£56,000收入，相較起很多高薪職位高出兩成，這些職業的平均薪金是：
- 中學教師 – £40,880
- 事務律師 – £43,190
- 建築師 – £42,930
貨櫃車司機嚴重短缺，有駕駛學校提供免費培訓
公路運輸協會估計，以英國在瘟疫前的貨櫃車司機數量(總數60萬)來計算，目前缺少10萬個貨櫃車司機。
在Meriden（Coventry附近）的 Pertemps Driving Academy 駕駛學校表示願意提供免費的貨櫃車駕駛課程（價值£5000），以補給市場上的需求。駕駛學校的總裁表示，貨櫃車司機行業短缺問題越來越嚴重，每年入行的人數越來越少，他認為課程的價錢是其中的障礙，因而提供免費培訓，期望能培養新一代的貨櫃車司機。
現時提供的上課地點有：Worcestershire、Yorkshire（將會提供Bristol的上課地點）。有興趣投入貨櫃車司機行業的人士，可致電 0800 032 0728 或透過電郵 driving.academy@pertemps.co.uk 登記培訓課程。

這種事是制度僵化的表現，我在香港殖民地時代考獲的駕駛執照，只要是用方向盤控制的我都可以駕駛，但移居英國後發覺能直接交換的只有小型汽車及小貨車。只好嘆氣、無奈！

你好Wai，多謝支持。始終都係大型車輛，政府都需要考慮後果，俾得你一個即係要俾曬來自其他所有國家都可以直接換，咁樣對普通市民同道路使用者就無安全保障。亦都好難判斷司機真實經驗，我就認為可以駕駛同可以安全駕駛係兩回事（尤其係個人駕駛心理質素）。不過我認為政府應該出一些短暫課程或者測試來到方便有十足經驗的司機，咁就可以達到雙贏效果 🙂

UK govt why not allow exchanging foreign lorry truck license to UK one directly as an immediate remedy. It could be considered according to their driving experience.

Hi there，I believe the decision is based on the size of the vehicle. Manoeuvring a vehicle in the size of a buss or lorry, it’s extremely important to study/understand UK driving regulation/law, surrounding environment, driving behaviour and road condition etc hence the government won’t allow a direct exchange of those license types. However, you are correct on the driving experience point, they should have a separate exchange process for those have great driving experience to speed up the process 🙂
