在過去幾天，有不少小型的能源公司表示正面臨清盤倒閉，主要是受CO2（ Carbon dioxide ）短缺影響，導致媒氣批發價格瘋狂上漲（上升280%），令小型的能源公司無法經營。
現時已進入信託管理的能源公司有以下幾間：
- Utility Point
- People’s Energy
- PFP Energy
- HUB Energy
- MoneyPlus Energy
- Green network energy
- Simplicity energy
小型公司倒閉，顧客將會面對昂貴費用
以上的小型公司倒閉，將有接近70萬名用戶受影響，雖然不至於令顧客失去能源使用，但顧客將會被轉移到新的能源公司，新的能源公司會以更高價格收費（就好像搬家換能源公司時）。
Citizens Advice 建議大家經常記錄 電錶 / 媒氣錶，以防在交接過程中新公司作出不合理的收費。
政府有何解決方案？
2019年1月起，政府已設立了『能源收費上限』，能源公司必須對普通顧客（非固定月費/增值）的收費設有上限。
但經過這些年能源價格上漲，即使獲『能源收費上限』的保障，但仍難逃收費上升（平均值）：
- 非固定月費 – 由每年£1,138 升至 £1,277
- 增值用戶 – 由每年£1,156 升至 £1,309
暫時政府在這事情上，只表態會向大型能源公司借貸和補貼國家最大的二氧化碳生產商以提升供應量，因此這些小型在沒有政府幫助的情況下，唯有期望其他能源公司買盤來渡過今次難關。
CO2 短缺，影響食物供應
CO2（ Carbon dioxide ）短缺除了令媒氣價格上升外，還影響到超級市場的食物供應。『Iceland』的老闆表示，CO2短缺將影響聖誕節期間的食物供應。連英國4大超級市場 Sainsbury’s、Tesco、Morrisons 和 Asda 亦表示食物供應短缺隨即出現，相信聖誕月份會更嚴重。

Co2短缺如何影響食物供應？
CO2已廣泛使用在食品上，例如：用來製作碳酸，變成有汽飲品；加在食物上可隔絕空氣中的細菌，從而延長食物壽命等。
