這2個大男人抬起汽車，在車底搞什麼？原來他們在偷取汽車的催化轉化器（Catalytic converters）！
沒錯，這就是近年最熱門的偷竊目標。這類案件在近兩年間急升超過100%，他們無處不在，經常帶著工具四圍找尋目標，只要看中目標便隨時下手，大部份偷竊催化轉化器的案件，都是在受害人住處的停車位發生。
拆掉催化轉化器只需數分鐘的時間，因此近年不少案件都在日間明目張膽地進行，當中不少案件更發生在市中心的停車場或路邊。
為何選擇偷取催化轉化器？
整個催化轉化器都使用很值錢的金屬物料：鉑platinum、鈀palladium 和 銠rhodium，主要用作減少和過濾車輛排出的有害氣體。賊人可以轉手賣得£150-£800的價格。
某些車款更內含『白金 White Gold』，可以獲得更高的利潤（轉賣可獲超過£1000）。
如何得知催化轉化器被偷？
由於催化轉化器在汽車的車底，一般都很難發現。但如果發現你的汽車噪音變大，這很有可能已經被偷了。
假如不幸發生了，你應該到汽車維修中心安裝新的催化轉化器（大概£1000），因為沒有催化轉化器的汽車在路上行走是犯法的。
哪款汽車最經常成為目標？
由Leicestershire 警局公佈最經常被看中為目標是日本混能汽車，當中有：
Honda Jazz
Honda Accord
Toyota Prius
Toyota Auris
如何避免發生？
為防止催化轉化器被偷，警方有以下建議給大家：
- 購買催化轉化器的警報器或金屬罩，將警報器安裝在設備周圍以起到威嚇作用
- 使用安全標記套件(catalytic converter marking kit)， 能有助於警方在廢車場等地方識別和尋找線索
- 盡可能將車輛停在車房中 或 光線充足的地方
- 將車停在一些賊人難以進入車底的地方（例如較淺窄的地方）
