NHS宣佈推出長期計劃，其中一項是打算向心血管病人送出電子血壓計。這項計劃預期能在未來10年，減低和預防大概15萬個心臟病發作、中風和癡呆症的病例。
在初期階段，NHS先提供22萬部電子血壓計，給血壓不穩定和不受控的病人，讓他們在家中進行檢查，便無須刻意去診所測量。
從診所獲發電子血壓計後，病人只須每天在家中花1分鐘時間，便可得知自己的血壓狀況。然後把紀錄得的數據，經電話、電郵 或 電子遙距監控平台（digital remote monitoring platform）發送給診所，讓醫生為你作定期評估。這樣，病人亦無須費神約見診所醫生，讓事情變得簡單直接。
NHS還建議超過40歲的市民，應當每5年檢查一次血壓，以預防任何心血管疾病。各位可以到註冊GP診所，免費測量血壓。
