英國的生活成本不斷飈升的危機中，電力、媒氣、汽水田大家都勒緊褲頭，能省則省的方式下繼續生活。但近年，英女皇、查爾斯王子和劍橋公爵和其夫人等高級皇室成員，他們所花費的開支卻不斷持續增加，據說去年英國皇室共花掉納稅人 1億英鎊。
增加17%的開支
今天的一份報告顯示，去年皇室花費了納稅人 1.024 億英鎊。隨著國家在生活成本危機中苦苦掙扎，皇室成員的支出卻增加了 1500 萬英鎊（17%），首次達到 1 億英鎊。
皇室花費驚人，大部份的原因是因為Platinum Jubilee而翻新白金漢宮，該項目共花了6,390 萬英鎊，比上一年增加 1,440 萬英鎊。加上瘟疫漸漸穩定下來，皇室的親善訪問行程又開始起來，旅行費用從 130 萬英鎊飆升至 450 萬英鎊。
皇室的財務專家亦表示：” 這是不對的！政府應該徹底重新考慮納稅人的錢是如何分配給皇室。我們無權過問皇室選擇使用私人飛機或直升機，但應考慮到這是公共銀包中支付的，一般大眾仍在苦苦掙扎地生活”。
未來將有更多開支，白金漢宮將有一項大型的改造工程，為期10年，估計花超過3.69 億英鎊。
