母親與子女姓氏不同
英國人結婚後，便會跟隨夫姓，那麼很自然父母和小孩的姓氏都會一樣。但我們華人 （尤其香港），沒有法律規定限制必須更改夫姓，而傳統文化上亦沒有意識認為必須跟隨夫姓，最多只會在原姓氏前加上夫姓，所以很廣泛地出現母親和子女的姓氏不一樣。
入境職員可作出合理懷疑
為了防止販賣兒童，入境處職員對於同行的兒童的姓氏不一樣會特別注意。假如只有母親與子女，或甚至跟隨外公外婆、親友等出國，便要預先安排和準備以下的事項：
- 向目的地國家的駐英領事館查詢
- 了解當地的入境要求
- 帶上任何可以證明與孩子關係的文件
- 出世紙（能顯示生父母的姓名）
- 結婚證書（能顯示丈夫的姓名）
- 帶上父母的旅行同意書
- 父母未有陪同前往出國，可預先簽寫旅行同意書
- 適用於外公外婆等姓氏不同的親友
- 信件內容必須詳細說明父母未能同行的情況，並在見證人的情況下，父母簽署信件
