根據BBC報導，英國政府將進一步促進垃圾回收提議，從 2026 年起在各城市推行路邊回收小型家庭電器產品，例如：氣炸機、微波爐、烘麵包機和吹風機等。更進一步考慮在指定商店設立回收點，讓大部份家庭可以免費回收沒用的物品。
免費回收大型電器
目前，B&Q，John Lewis 和 Currys 等許多零售商在顧客購買新商品時會提供大型電器回收服務，客戶必須繳付相關取貨服務費用。但當新服務推出時，零售商在出售新產品將有義務為客戶回收不需要的大型電器，而顧客也將不再需要支付相關的回收費用。
市民錯誤地扔到垃圾桶
這一項改革是為了協助政府更進一步提高垃圾回收效率，因為現時英國政府發現每年有 大概155,000 噸小型家用電器（如電纜、烤麵包機、水壺和電動工具）被市民錯誤丟棄。根據政府統計，英國聖誕節期間大約有 500 噸裝飾燈被錯誤 “遺棄”。
相關部門已在12月28號開始和製造商、零售商和小型企業進行為期 10 週的磋商。回收部長Robbie Moore表示，此計畫將確保貨物避免被不必要地丟棄。他說：“英國每年有數以百萬計的家用電器最終被扔進垃圾箱，而未能正確的回收或再利用。這純粹是資源浪費，必須停止。”
在最近一項研究發現，超過 77% 的住戶認為如果零售商提供小型家電回收服務，這會促使大家對環境保護更加負責。這一措施如果通過，將會適用於全英國，包括英格蘭政府、蘇格蘭政府、威爾斯政府和北愛爾蘭政府。
