近日醫管局表示NHS營運資金不足，每年需要增加£100億（£10 Billions)的資金，否則將會慮積高達1千3百萬人在等候看病名單，甚至需要等候長達7年才可接受治療。
現時NHS的等候名單已有超過5百萬人，其中30萬已等候超過一年才獲接受治療。手術、掃描、預約看專科醫生等，因為怕市民到訪醫院會受病毒感染而被取消，加上大批醫生專注在治療Covid病毒病人，人手非常短缺，因而積慮了很多病人在等候名單內。
NHS聯會和供應商指出，現時需要連續3年提高營運資金，才可令NHS回復正常運作。資金除了解決現時大批等候治療的病人之外，其中一半是用在Covid病毒上的物資費用，例如：PPE、雇用臨時職員，還有提供給醫護人員和護老院職員的檢測套裝。
增加NI費，避免英國養老危機
今日首相提出增加國民保險費（National Insurance），除了可以舒緩NHS的資金不足問題外，亦打算將資金投放在養老服務上，幫助家庭支付大部份的護老院或照顧長者的費用，避免有人為支付此費用而賣掉房屋。
這次將會有2千5百萬人受影響。初步估計，市民將需要增加至少 1% – 1.25% 才足夠應付。

但衛生局長Sajid Javid卻認為1%只能集資£100億，離目標資金還有一段距離，建議提升至2%才足夠應付。
