BBC的節目 『Rip Off Britain』中播出英國購買新樓的醜聞，事件發生在Bradford的1個在2014年興建的小型住宅區。
1對夫婦在2014年以£130,000購買其中一個3房獨立屋，由於房屋貸款將要到期轉新的按揭，因此需要找銀行續按，但銀行拒絕，銀行表示他們現時的房子是完全沒有市場價值（£0)，事情就此被揭發。
為什麼完全沒有市場價值？因為當年市政府並沒有向發展商批出building regulations standards（建築法規標準）。過住該地段是用作堆填區用途，現時這土地仍在排放有毒的甲烷，是不適合人類居住。但發展商並從未為房屋安裝防毒膜（gas membranes），令屋主既不能做按揭，亦不能續繼居住。加上沒有市政府的building regulations standards批文，市政府是不承認和負責該區的道路環境，令住宅道路破爛亦無人理會。
現時居住在該小區一共13名住戶，嘗試找當年的發展商『Sherwood Homes』尋求解決方法，但該發展商正在由信託管理進行賣盤（面臨清盤），完全沒有人接聽電話或回覆電郵。其中有住戶向conveyancing solicitors物業轉讓律師投訴，認為他們沒有履行職責，造成今次事件發生。雖然律師否認過失，但仍然願意接受支付修補發展商沒有完成的工作。
至於Bradford市政府表示，願意透過程序幫助和指引給住戶們。
