英國議會於2022年2月24號發佈對於BNO 簽證申請條件更新：

2021 年 1 月 31 日，英國為英國國民（海外）（BN(O)）身份持有者及其家庭成員定製並推出了移民路線。這條路線反映了英國對那些選擇在 1997 年香港回歸中國之前獲得 BN(O) 身份的香港人的自身權利和自由的道德承諾。
該移民路線已取得顯著成功，截至 2021 年 12 月 31 日，該路線已接收了 103,900 份申請。
BNO持有人的后代
在現行BNO移民條例中，生於 1997 年 7 月 1 日或之後的香港人必須與其BNO父母同時申請（以為受撫養人身份），如果BNO父母不希望藉以此路線移民英國，其子女係無法進行申請。
此條例對 BNO 身份持有人的家庭造成一定程度的不公平對待，例如18 至 24 歲的家庭成員無法以獨立身份申請移民。因此英國政府決定允許1997 年 7 月 1 日或之後出生的 18 歲或以上的香港人以個人獨立身份申請該路線，前提是其父母任何一方必須擁有 BNO資格。

內政部打算在2022年9月對這項新加入的移民條件進行修改，這項修改預計將在 2022年10月生效。
