英國Uber其下的兩名駕駛員(Uber Drivers)在 2016年首次入稟法院，控告Uber違反1996年《就業權利法》和1998年《國家最低工資法》的法規，指Uber沒有遵照法例向駕駛員支付國家最低工資和提供法定的有薪假期。在訴訟案中，Uber一直聲稱其下的駕駛員非『Worker工人』，而是自雇人士，因此無需對員工提供就業保障等服務。
經過幾年來的訴訟，終於在上星期五（ 19/2/2021）被高等法院裁定必須將 Uber 駕駛員歸類為『Worker工人』，應當獲得正式員工的權益。以駕車司機來說，除了基本的最低工資外，還有法定有薪假期、法定病假、工作上損失保障/賠償等。
Uber的水喉被打開了，成千上萬的Uber駕駛員蜂擁而至，要求向Uber索回應有的工資和福利。 根據律師組織團體訴訟行動提供的數據顯示，至目前為止，在全英國6萬名Uber司機中已有 20％以上正向Uber提出索償。
律師事務所『Partner of law firm Keller Lenkner』 的合伙人Andrew Nugent Smith指出，自上星期五Uber敗訴後至今，律師樓已接獲9000個索償案件，為他們計算後估計每位將可獲£10,000 至 £12,000。
面對全英國的Uber司機接近£6億索償，同時將要面對未來法例修訂。保守黨在2月24日的會議上向政府施壓，促請儘快修例來保障工人，停止一切『無良商家』對工人的『虐待』。會議中，提及的並非只是Uber，好像Deliverloo、 Just Eat這些以每張訂單來計算，也是以廉價方式來雇用工人為他們工作。他們指出好像Uber類型的企業，以低成本的方式運作，不但剝奪工人應有的權益，還對本土有牌出租車（Taxi）具有侵略性，不公平和掠奪性。這些問題不應由法院解決，政府應站在工人方面來對抗那些剝削工人、避稅和違反安全法規的大型跨國公司。
