英國NHS正式在2024年4月推出了一項世界首創計劃，全英格蘭數萬名一型糖尿病患者將接受「Artificial pancreas 人工胰腺」。
什麼是「Artificial pancreas 人工胰腺」？
「Artificial pancreas 人工胰腺」 – 同時被稱為混合閉環系統，可持續監測人的血糖，並自動調整來補給足夠的胰島素劑量。相對目前，大多數一型糖尿病患者需要自行監測血糖水平並相應地調整胰島素劑量方便和安全多。而且可同時減少低血糖和高血糖事件，有效改善整體糖尿病管理。
NHS將大型投入『人工胰腺』
目前英格蘭地區有高達269,095名人是患有一型糖尿病， NHS已向地區NHS系統提供了£250 萬英鎊，開始並計劃在5年內完成識別符合條件、可以從該計劃中受益的 1 型糖尿病患者。
人工胰腺在試驗階段時，已在成功為 835 名患有一型糖尿病的成人和兒童改善他們的病情管理。
在英格蘭，NHS 目前每年花費約 100 億英鎊（佔其全部預算的 10%）用於識別和治療糖尿病。國家糖尿病臨床主任 Clare Hambling 博士表示：『這是 NHS 在未來五年內在英格蘭各地推出這些突破性設備，在醫療保健領域處於領先地位的另一個好例子。這項變革性技術有能力重新定義一型糖尿病患者的生活，有望帶來更好的生活品質和臨床結果。』
