很多年前的歐洲金融風暴，令英國經濟元氣大傷，店舖生意差，為了追上營業額，很多店只關門聖誕節一天，便在Boxing day（節禮日）開門，希望藉住公眾假期（Bank Holiday）減價促銷。不過經過幾年的試驗，發現超級市場在Boxing Day的生意強差人意，不會像時裝促銷般熱鬧。
再加上經過差不多兩年Covid的折磨，很多超級市場和商店都表示今年12月26日關門，讓員工好好休息！
現時已宣佈2021年Boxing Day繼續關門的有以下：
