『Kickers』這品牌的黑皮鞋的皮革和鞋底非常舒服又耐穿，很適合小孩上學穿著，因此很多英國家長喜歡購買此品牌。而 Bradwell 1 名母親原本一直購買Clarks的上學鞋，亦因為看到廣告和好評而決定試試Kickers皮鞋，於是在區內鞋店『Wynsors World of Shoes』花了£74為兩名兒子購買新的上學鞋。
可是不到幾天，皮鞋一些部位開始掉落，她很生氣，覺得怎麼可能才剛使用便開始損壞！於是她返回商店要求退款或更換，商店並沒有即時退款或更換，只聯絡了Kickers 的 quality control team（品質控制團隊）為顧客作出投訴，但Kickers的回覆是：這是顧客和商店之間的糾紛，不屬於他們管轄範圍。而最後，商店並沒有為此事進行退款或更換。在沒有退款或更換的情況下，該名母親只好再花錢重新為孩子們買新鞋。
不過這位媽媽不甘被騙，於是在Facebook上發文，建議大家不要到該商店購物。但很多人看到皮鞋的照片後，都紛紛認為商店不退款是合理的。從照片上看到，除了后跟的顏色塑膠塊掉落之外，鞋頭的皮革都嚴重損壞，看似已穿了兩、三年的皮鞋般，認為小孩應付最大責任。

英國消費者權益
在這件上來看，雙方都各有理據，顧客購買商品不久便壞了；但另一邊箱，退貨商品的殘舊程度令人覺得是人為造成。究竟這事件上是誰對誰錯？
根據英國消費者權益指引，商店可以就以下條例自行定立退貨條款來保障自己。
商店必須就以下原因向顧客全額退款：
- 商品有損壞或瑕疵（非顧客造成的）
- 顧客認為商品說明不相乎
- 商品說明與使用時出現差異
商店可以就以下原因拒絕退款：
- 購買時，已知道該貨品有損壞或瑕疵
- 貨品損壞後，嘗試讓別人/自行修理
- 改變主意，不想要該貨品，例如：因為尺寸或顏色錯誤（除非在沒有實質看過貨品的情況下購買）
以下貨品因本身損壞或瑕疵，商店才必須退款，例如：
- 個人化、手工製作和訂制的物品，例如：窗簾
- 易腐爛的物品，例如：冷凍食品或鮮花
- 報紙和雜誌
- 沒有包裝的 CD、DVD 和電腦軟件
而上述事件，損壞的部份是離開店後發生，鞋店有理由相信是人為造成，可有權拒絕退款。建議大家當知道有損壞或瑕疵的時候，立即停止使用貨品並儘快返回店舖嘗試退款。
假如以下貨品或服務出現問題 或 不公平交易的狀況，但商店仍拒絕退款：
- credit and store cards 商品禮物卡
- faulty goods 有損壞或瑕疵貨品
- counterfeit goods 仿冒品
- poor service 很差的服務
- contracts 合同
- builders 建設者
- rogue traders 黑店
可聯絡Citizens Advice 投訴和尋求協助。
