英國生活指數急升，令National living wages（時薪£9.50）再也無法支持一般人應有的生活。由3月開始，先後分別有地下鐵 和 巴士的工會組織發起罷工運動，或許連火車也要加入罷工行動。

火車罷工

與地下鐵是同一個工會的 The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union 宣佈正在計劃一次，他們稱為『歷史上最大型的鐵路罷工運動』。工會最近舉辦了一次關鍵性的投票，投票成員有40,000名，假如獲支持，罷工行動將會在6月份開始。

罷工的原因

整個Network Rail打算削減20億的開支。首先，有至少 2500 名維修的工作崗位被削減。其次，是工資的升幅被凍結。還有更改合約條款內容，令員工感到毫無保障。

公眾理應諒解

假如罷工行動開始，將會影響由London 前往各大城市的火車班次。但工會表示，這次裁員的2500名員工都是火車維修崗位，是屬於技術性的人員，欠缺他們只會增加火車的意外，令公眾的乘搭的風險增加。

15間火車公司的成員參與投票

這次投票共有以下15間火車公司參與，投票時間由4月26日至5月24日。如投票通過罷工，影響範圍將會甚廣。
